Why did you choose to come and study in the UK?
You might think it is funny but I have always wanted to speak with a British accent. It is really charming; I really like it and I have always wanted to study here.
Also, I feel that the UK is a good place to come and study because it is a country which is modern and developed, yet still has a very traditional feel to it.
Why did you choose to come and study in Manchester?
I was hugely influenced by the South Korean footballer Ji-Sung Park who currently plays for
Manchester United. Before Ji-Sung Park, people in South hardly know anything about the UK and especially not about the city of Manchester. Now that has all changed and Koreans know a lot about Manchester. It is a very popular city in Korea due to Manchester United Football Club. Ji-Sung is a real hero in Korea and our most famous sportsman. That is why it means so much to us.
What were your first impressions of Manchester?
I thought that Manchester was very clean, although there was quite a lot of rain. It was a confusing city at first because there were a lot of traditional and modern buildings mixed together.
The first day at INTO Manchester was very nice, we got taken on a tour of the city, we got shown the facilities at INTO like the Learning Centre and we got introduced to all the things that would help us study here.
Was it easy to make friends at INTO Manchester?
Yes it was really easy for me. I met my best friend here on the first day. We are on the same course, in the same class and even live together!
Has your English improved since studying here?
Yes it has improved very much. I get to speak English almost 24 hours a day since I have been living in Manchester. I am always speaking it; it has become my main language since studying here in the UK, which is great.
Can you tell us about the academic side of your course?
The course is very helpful at preparing me for university and I have learnt lots of new skills from the UK education system. The course here has been very tough but I believe it has been very helpful for me and I hope to get to The University of Manchester.
What are your teachers like at INTO Manchester?
We really love the teachers. I have a tutor, he is not just a teacher he is a personal tutor for my class. Our class tutors care about us more than the other tutors, which is really good and they are always willing to help us out.
What are the facilities like at INTO Manchester?
The facilities are very nice. I use the Learning Centre nearly everyday and often rent out books and DVDs. I also use the online resources on the Learning Centre website and use the databases like EBSCO to help in my coursework for Economics and Politics.
What has been your favourite thing about studying in Manchester?
My favourite thing is the city of Manchester itself and I would really like to continue studying here at University. I often explore the city centre a lot with my friends and go shopping to places like the Arndale Centre which is located right at the heart of the city centre.
Are your family pleased you are studying in the UK?
Yes they are very pleased, they think I have improved my English skills a lot since coming to study in the UK. They are also very pleased with the study environment here. I would recommend INTO Manchester to students back home in Korea wanting to come and study in the UK in the future.
